Go Beyond The High Street With Birmingham’s Great Western Arcade
Great Western Arcade
Often described as ‘one of Birmingham’s hidden gems’, Great Western Arcade provides a shopping experience where retailers can find the highest quality products all in one place. In 2019 they are continuing to grow with the introduction of two brand-new offerings.
The Good Intent is a not-for-profit real ale bar that will be based in the heart of the shopping centre. Opposite is At One Day Spa where bespoke tailoring experts Newland Tailoring will be operating from.
In total the Great Western Arcade hosts 29 independent retailers making it a must for wedding planning, weekend rejuvenation and retail therapy trips not to mention after office entertainment. This includes quality haircuts from the Goodlife Barbershop, Birmingham’s ‘go-to’ wine store Loki Wines, Feathers Weddings and art gallery Paul Horton Fine Art.
Erected in the late 1870s, the Great Western Arcade was built as a tunnel for the railway line between Moor Street and Snow Hill stations with a number of independent retailers popping up to do business there. Many of its original Victorian features remain intact today and it has become well known as a pioneer in supporting Birmingham’s independent retail industry.

The Good Intent
Autumn 2019 has seen the Great Western Arcade welcome a new not-for-profit real ale bar in The Good Intent.
Put together by the award-winning Craddock’s Brewery, The Good Intent will donate all of its profits to charities and worthy causes. Maintaining the Arcade’s iconic Victorian style, the bar will provide its guests with superb ales as well as beers, wines and spirits.
At One Day Spa
Located on the mezzanine level of the arcade, At One Day Spa give their customers a welcome retreat from the bustling Birmingham city.
The professional therapists offer relaxing treatments including massages, facials, holistic therapies and beauty treatments which can all be enjoyed in a truly tranquil setting.
The spa’s owner Beth Davis is thrilled to see new businesses join the spa. She said: “After enjoying nearly a decade of success here in the centre of the Arcade it is terrific to see such innovative businesses joining us in this fabulous shopping centre”.
