Monika Shine, like many women, has a full-on life. Two children, a commitment to staying in shape and a business to run, Monika is focused, driven and very busy and thanks to her growing success, looks set to stay that way.
As CEO of successful hybrid nail polish brand, Semilac, Monika has been instrumental in bringing this leading Polish brand to UK audiences.
Dominating the Polish nailcare market, Semilac is a big deal in its home nation and with her insight and business acumen, Monika was able to see the potential of bringing this hardwearing, high-quality nail polish to the UK.
To many, Monika’s move into the beauty industry may have seemed like a shot in the dark, after all she had no experience of working within this sector. However, having previously enjoyed a successful career in property development, she knew she had the drive, commitment and the management skills to succeed.
“While I had no direct experience of the beauty industry,” explained Monika, “I do understand business, and so I focused on learning as I much as can about Semilac, nail care and the beauty business as a whole.”
Monika’s focus has paid off and under her direction Semilac has grown in the UK. In less than two years the business has gone from having no proper infrastructure to having a thriving online presence, a salon, a nail academy and a range of stockists.
Having already achieved so much doesn’t mean that Monika will be taking her foot off the gas any time soon:
“We are always looking at ways to innovate, whether that is through the fashion-forward colours we launch each season or through the innovative techniques we bring to the industry. This will continue as we look to break into the market even further - taking on the big names who currently dominate.”
One way in which Semilac is looking to boost its brand profile is through an empowering new campaign, which Monika outlines:
“I am really excited about our Beauty Without Compromise campaign, which sees us working with female brand ambassadors from the world of sport, who despite having physically demanding working lives, still aspire to have beautiful nails.”
The campaign is gathering momentum and Olympic gold medallists, hockey player Giselle Ansley MBE and three-time world champion track cyclist, Dani King MBE are both on board.
